So the Spear-Sartarites in days gone by

and the many Kings and Queens who ruled them had courage and greatness

We have heard of those princes' heroic campaigns.

There was Jarolar Longstrider, Prince of Sartar,

who caught the Copper Deer, slain by the Iron Maidens,

his love-son Jarolar Longarroiw, the Hothead,

who was deserted and poisoned, best forgotten,

another son Rastoron, loyal liege, dead at his father;s side,

but father of Loricon the loyal

who married Enerin, iron-eyed, heir to the Wolfkiller.

They bore Kallyr, the Starbrow, red-haired rebel, ready and rash,

Queen of Kheldon, often defeated but never vanquished,

who raised the feeble flame of Sartar to fierce fire.

After the DragonRIse she prepared the people, allied with Argrath.

The fortunes of war favored Kallyr, friends and kinsmen flocked to her ranks,

young followers, a force that grew to a mighty army.

She did not renege, but doled out rings and torques at table.

But Doom abided, in time it would come, a powerful demon,

its blood-lust rampant, seeking revenge for the losses at Dragonrise.

Muse, tell me about a complicated woman,

how Lagertha wandered and was lost

after sacking the City of Wonders,

and where she went, and who she met,

and how she worked to bring her troops back home.

She failed to keep them safe, poor fools.

Tell us of Baugi brown beard, Thane,

Enemy of all that serve Shepelkirt,

Of his rough companion Robbi Two Braid,

Servant of the Desert Storm, bane of chaos,

Of Sorala, surprising scholar,

adventurous author of epics,

Of Freyar, healer of the Earth,

of Andrinik, admired advisor,

teller of tales, traveler and trader,

and of Buttercup, whisper on the wind

whom spirits serve and foes fear

Now goddess, child of Orlanth,

tell the old story for our modern times

Find the beginning...
