Preface

LagerdSaga is the famous poem about a group of largely Sartartite rebels, encompassing most major events of the Hero Wars.  Here one reads the famous legends of Queen Leika BlackSpear, Argrath Liberator, and Prince Kallyr Starbrow, She Whose Word Saved Sartar.  The protagonists are largely from the Taraling Clan of the Colymar Tribe.

All know the mighty deeds of the primary pair: Baugi Erikson and his twin sister Lagertha The Unexpected, fabled Wind Lords.

Their frequent companions include the Uroxi Robbi Two Braid, the Ernaldan High Priestess Freyar, Sword Sage Sorala, Andrenik GoldenTongue, Bronwyn, Mighty Sword of Humakt, her sister High Healer Sarawyn, and Jaranik, Shaman of the Strange Path.   There are also brief appearances by many other famous names, including Shaman Buttercup, a Wind Child of the Awr Cartef tribe, Harmast of the Ernaldori clan, Annstad of Dunstop, and Vasana the Honorable.

There are many questions about the authorship.  One prevalent theory is that Sorala the Elder, noted Draconic Scholar and author of the classic study of the DragonRise, "10 Days that Shook the World", as an author.  But there are stylistic echoes of her daughter, Sorala the Younger, especially to her works Flight of Dragons, Song of Dragons, and Quest for Dragons.  Perhaps she finished the work after the tragic death of her mother.

The songs and poems are usually attributed to Lagertha herself, or her daughters, though Dansena the Wise, (see appendix d) points out their great similarity to many earlier songs and poems, claiming they are too derivative, and probably added by the unknown author.

The Saga begins in Earth Season of 1625, shortly after the Dragonrise. It is a time of great peril and confusion, but also of opportunities for greatness.  After a brief intorduction, the saga starts as the party defends the sleepy hamlet of Apple Lane, which leads into the great adventure...
